Information Technology Services (ITS) offers free seminars related to thesis writing and the production of an electronic thesis or dissertation (ETD). Descriptions of each seminar are given below, but registration is required for all seminars.

Overview of the Thesis Process
Instructor: Steve Dahm

Prerequisites: None.

This is a quick overview of the Thesis process, including formatting and submitting your thesis. We will discuss important resources, format review submission, and creating a PDF of your thesis. There will be an overview of PsuThesi, a template designed to assist with the thesis writing process. All of this will be accomplished in just an hour of your time.

PsuThesis: Thesis Templates for Microsoft Word
Instructor: Steve Dahm

Prerequisite(s): Must be a graduate student, a Schreyer Honors College student, or thesis committee member; basic knowledge of Microsoft Word.

The Penn State software package called PSUThesi for Word is a collection of Microsoft Word templates containing interactive tools to produce a Penn State thesis or Scholars paper according to the guidelines set forth by the Thesis Office. Versions of the software are available for both Windows and Macintosh operating systems. Attendees should sign up for this seminar as early as possible in the thesis-writing process.

Objectives:
*Learn concepts of Microsoft Word styles and templates
*Examine the Microsoft Word templates containing interactive tools to produce a Penn State thesis or Scholars paper
*Learn about the preprogrammed functions to eliminate most of the tedious tasks associated with the layout of a thesis

Adobe Acrobat and Electronic Dissertations
Instructor: Steve Dahm

Prerequisite(s): Must be a graduate student, a Schreyer Honors College student, or thesis committee member.

This seminar will focus on the use of Adobe Acrobat with specifics related to the production of an Electronic Thesis or Dissertation (ETD). Included in the discussion will be Acrobat facilities for file linking, multimedia, and minor final editing. Also discussed will be methods to produce hotlinks and bookmarks in the final ETD.
Objectives:
*Learn to produce a PDF file and merge multiple PDF files
*Learn about Acrobat's facilities for file linking, multimedia, and minor final editing
*Discover methods to produce hotlinks and bookmarks in the final ETD
